Top Things to Do in Udaipur for a Honeymoon Couple

There’s a reason why people refer to Udaipur as the City of Lakes. It’s an incredibly beautiful place that almost seems unfair in its splendor. There are palaces directly on the edge of stunningly clear water, narrow aged city streets, candlelight dinner options by the lakeside and a pace of living that encourages you to slow down and just enjoy being there. So,  if you are coming to Udaipur for your honeymoon, you’re already making an excellent choice. Here are the best ways to spend your time while there.

Sunset Boat Ride on Lake Pichola

Start Here. A boat ride on Lake Pichola at golden hour is one of those lifetime experiences you will remember long after you leave. The City Palace, Jag Mandir island and the Lake Palace hotel are all outstanding in their beauty when viewed from the water at that time of day. Reserve a private boat ride; leave your phone off for a few minutes; just enjoy!

Walk Through the City Palace

The city palace, a multi-layered structure built over many years, beautifully displays the various architectural styles and historical records of hovels, courtyards or terrazzo to show the history of this part of the world. The views from the top (there is a small entrance fee) are worth the price of admission.

Spend a Lazy Afternoon in the Old City

Jagdish Temple and Lal Ghat are located on narrow streets that are perfect for taking an entire lazy afternoon with no plans. There are several cafes on rooftops, many small shops selling block print fabrics and silver jewellery (not to mention the delicious food at these places), and wonderful little restaurants where you can sit forever with no rush to leave. You should order dal baati churma (we loved it), find a high rooftop terrace where you have a view of the lake and enjoy spending time together. Some of the most memorable moments of your honeymoon will be these afternoons.

Visit Saheliyon Ki Bari

While this garden isn’t the most popular location, it still deserves as much attention as the larger landmarks located in Udaipur. It was constructed to accommodate the ladies of the royal court and houses marble pavilions, water lily pools, and fountains all around. The setting is calm and beautiful and is an excellent choice for a romantic visit where you take your time.

Dinner by the Lake

Udaipur is home to some very nice restaurants, from which you can enjoy stunning views of Lake Pichola and the illuminated City Palace when dining out during the evening hours. So, make reservations, dress up, eat traditional cuisine, and enjoy a long and leisurely dinner together, feeling as if you’re in a movie for the entire time you’re at the restaurant.

Day Trip to Kumbhalgarh or Ranakpur

On any free day, you can visit both Kumbhalgarh Fort and the Ranakpur Jain Temples, as each offers a unique experience. The Kumbhalgarh Fort provides breathtaking views from the top of a hill and consists of the longest fort wall in the world. At the same time, the Ranakpur Temple features the most beautifully detailed marble architecture ever created. Both locations offer outstanding opportunities for a wonderful day trip.

Choosing Where to Stay

Where you stay in Udaipur makes a real difference. A room with a lake view or a heritage property in the old city adds something to the trip that you can’t quite manufacture otherwise. There are options across all budgets, from grand palace hotels to cosy boutique guesthouses. Checking out hotels in Udaipur early and booking in advance is a good idea, especially if you’re travelling between October and February when the city is at its best.

To Sum It Up

Udaipur offers you a convenient location to enjoy your honeymoon with everything we mentioned. The romantic setting, excellent food choices, beautiful destinations to visit, and an overall comfortable pace of life make Udaipur a great place to relax and take your time. Your only regret about coming to Udaipur will be that you had to leave so soon!
